The League of Veteran Racing Cyclists provides a full season’s programme of competitive cycling events starting at the end of February and running until the middle of October. Events are organised in regions and Stratford Cycling Club (SCC) have been hosting one of the races for several years.
This year the race will take place on March 21 and is expertly organised by Graham Sims and his team of willing club members. Heather, Graham’s wife makes sure the helpers are well looked after and each one is rewarded with a goody bag. All riders look forward to her delicious homemade cakes on their return.
The first race in region 7 is the early season 2 up team Time Trial over 21 miles of undulating terrain. Several of SCC members will be dusting off their race bikes and venturing out before the road races begin the following week.
Graham, who is a regular entrant in the LVRC, will be competing in as many of the region 7 races as possible including another local course at the end of March near Pershore. Unlike the race he organises, the 45 mile course is reasonably flat and is a good event for those new to road racing. Other SCC members Keith Walton, Murv Mutton and Nigel Humphreys also take part in the LVRC series.
It is an important year for SCC with 2 open Time Trial events to organise including the National 10 on May 23rd which will attract some of the top British riders. Six weeks before is the Open 10 Time Trial which will be used as a suitable practice run for many of the National competitors. This will take place on the K33 course on April 10th.
